Earlier this month, students from the La Follette School of Public Affairs at UW-Madison completed a report linked here: "Assessing the Impact of Financial Capabilities Services for Newly Arrived Humanitarian Migrants"
The report uses a combination of both existing literature and data analysis to assess the effectiveness of the financial capability program at our parent organization, the International Rescue Committee, and features information about IRC-CEO.
The research in the report shows that well-designed programs like IRC’s are associated with improved credit, financial capability, and savings. IRC data show clients using CEO loans have higher increased average liquid assets.
The report has recommendations for policy makers to support this work and help meet one of the biggest challenges humanitarian migrants face once arriving in a host country: navigating the new financial landscape.
