LISC Awards 13 Economic Mobility Corps Members to IRC’s Center for Economic Opportunity

February 8, 2022 – IRC’s Center for Economic Opportunity was awarded 13 Economic Mobility Corps members from the Local Initiatives Support Corporation to provide critical financial education and resources to CEO’s clients.

The Economic Mobility Corps (EMC) is an effort developed jointly by AmeriCorps and the Department of the Treasury’s Community Development Financial Institutions Fund (CDFI Fund). The EMC members will be located in 13 different International Rescue Committee offices around the country (Boise, Idaho; Charlottesville, Va.; Dallas; Denver; Elizabeth, N.J.; Los Angeles; New York; Oakland, Calif.; Phoenix; Richmond, Va.; San Diego; San Jose, Calif.; and Turlock, Calif.)

The EMC members will provide a range of financial counseling services to CEO’s current and future clients. They will address critical issues such as financial and debt management, including saving for homeownership, while also helping to connect low-income families to affordable financial products.

"The EMC members contributions will increase CEO’s capacity to reach and provide needed services to clients,” said CEO’s director, Kasra Movahedi, “We appreciate LISC’s trust in our organization and look forward to these EMC members joining the CEO team.”

The EMC is an opportunity for members representing diverse communities to join in and gain experience in the CDFI sector, uplifting their voices as a way to build local leadership. Members will serve 12-month terms with CEO, earn a $20,000 living stipend, and have access to health insurance and childcare benefits, just as in the traditional AmeriCorps program. Once they successfully complete their service, they can access a $6,345 education award through AmeriCorps to return to school or pay off existing qualified student loan debt.

Those looking to apply for one of the 13 available EMC positions can visit CEO’s website and select the position in their community. Once enrolled, members will begin their service on a rolling basis by April 1st, 2022.
